Many people who experience mental illness no longer need lengthy stays in psychiatric facilities. New medications and therapy permit people with brain diseases to return to their communities. A return to the community does not always mean returning to an active life. Without appropriate services, like those offered at MHCC, social isolation, unemployment, boredom, depression, and even delinquency can occur. MHCC's community based drop-in centers meet a critical need for direct, non-medical support services, activities, and programs, designed to reduce and prevent the need for hospitalization. "I feel that I am a member of a family now, attending as many programs and groups as possible. There is hope in my life, once again." - Mary B., Prospect House
