    • More common than heart disease, cancer, and diabetes combined, one out of four persons will experience a mental illness this year.  Mental illnesses like Depression, Bi-Polar Manic-Depression, Schizophrenia, and Geriatric Depression are biological illnesses that have no cure, but can be treated.  Because of stigma and lack of acceptance as biological illnesses, it is estimated that only 30% of these individuals will seek treatment. They are likely to isolate and further contribute to their illness.  For many there are 8 to 10 years between the time of onset and treatment. Sufferers represent 37% of all disability costs.
